Kai is an Articling Student at our firm. He recently completed the joint degree program in Canadian Common Law (JD) and Indigenous Legal Orders (JID) at the University of Victoria.
Before pursuing a career in law, Kai spent 15 years in land and resource planning and management roles with First Nations, provincial, federal, and municipal governments. His background in natural resource governance and public administration informs his interest in complex regulatory frameworks and Indigenous legal issues.
Kai holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Northern British Columbia, a Bachelor of Arts in Environment and Development from McGill University, and a diploma in Integrated Environmental Planning Technology from Selkirk College. He is also a candidate member working toward designation as a registered professional planner.
During law school, Kai volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program. He also gained practical legal experience as a summer law student with the Department of Justice Canada and later with a non-profit legal clinic focused on Charter and human rights advocacy.
Kai has a particular interest in Indigenous relations, land use planning, and public decision-making.
Outside the office, Kai enjoys trail running and cross-country skiing in the mountains with his Australian Cattle Dog. He is also an aspiring garlic farmer.
