Casual Legal Advice

Welcome to the Casual Legal Services program. MIABC has selected Lidstone & Company to provide Casual Legal Advice to British Columbia local governments that have subscribed to the MIABC Casual Legal Services program. Casual Legal Services are defined as those that are limited to 30 minutes and involve no legal research or preparation of documents.

We provide the legal advice directly to the local government, not to MIABC or any other third party, and for each casual legal matter a legal services relationship, characterized by privilege and confidentiality, exists between the law firm and the local government. After a subscribing local government has paid the Casual Legal Advice fee to MIABC, there is no charge for the Casual Legal Advice.

Free Services

Subscribing members are also entitled at NO EXTRA CHARGE to the following benefits:

  • Annual Law Seminar: includes six hours of law workshops and lunch, no charge for Staff and elected officials of Casual Legal clients – dress casual!)
  • Quarterly newsletters: March, June, September, December. For past editions and the Index go to our Publications page.
